okay i have mixed views about this subject

first of all i find several fan fiction to be quite funny, dramatic, thrilling, and (in some cases)disturbing.

some i have read will give you nightmares and others are ones that will make your dreams seem like reality

alas the age when there was interesting fan fiction is fast disappearing,i have yet found a decent website for said writings, hmmmm but i digress...

to answer your question Silver-Chan,yes i find many fan fictions to be quite entertaining, others not so much, and still others to be disgusting or down right disturbing (in my own opinion of course)

of course,in my own opinion, some things should not be written

fanfiction that disturbs cete: yaoi M-rated slash-slash draco/harry potter/Snape fanfics XDD

just kidding... although, I actually think there's not too many horrific (in terms of taste) fanfics out there, like gratuitous porno "fanfic"

ofc there's a lott of crappily written ones that get way too much attention and annoyingly encouraging comments :3 but I used to love to read the halfway decent ones all the time. fanfics, including original "fanfics" (technically not fanfics but the same amateurish style) and neopets made up my fun time when I was a kid up till I was 13 or so.. I don't know what the community/output is like now, but back then it was an innocent source of fun.

I read fanfiction a lot. But I don't dare to venture out to search for them and mostly rely on recommendation from friends or communities. Fanfic writers can conjure up the weirdest story out of an innocent subject.

I mostly spend time in AO3 to read, since it's neat and has great filter option.

I really like AO3!!

I got sucked into th world of fanfiction when I realized that there were Pride and Prejudice stories! -swoons-

Some of them are bad, but I found a few that were quite good.

I was curious because for some it is a taboo subject, excitedly talked about, or considered a strange hobby.

@Arle: Are you talking about kink-memes?

AO3 is really really awesome. It's all easy to navigate and I can save it in any format I want :o I don't talk about reading fanfictions (especially slash fanfictions) to my real life friends who don't like it too, though. They think it's a weird hobby.

Ahaha, yeah, kink-memes are weird. Some are hilarious and really great but some other are just....too much for me to stomach.

I've read some really good fanfiction.
so basically I like it.

But there are some awful writtings too. some really stray from the original characters so far, it's not even fanfiction anymore.

Do you think that fanfiction or any type of fan-work (art, crafts, etc.) is a requirement to be "a true fan"?

depends on who you talk to,back in the day i knew a couple hard core yaoi otakus who wrote, drew, and even voice acted anime they created (i was in the anime/manga club in high school and as i have said before 75% of the student body were girls).haha i cant tell you how many times they tried to get me to voice act for them, they said they like my "aggressive growling drawl".

now most of those drawings (the ones i could stomach at least) almost looked like they were professionally drawn, and these are coming from girls who have little to no training in any kind of art

now back to the topic,in their own way, those girls were ultimate fans to an entire genre.

then i look on sites like deviant art and such and i see beautiful works of art that will get no recognition outside of the community of the site itself or someone specifically looking for said image.

wow i rambled sorry about that long day and little sleep
